Biography

Anton Torbeev is a prize-winner of international competitions.

He graduated from the Opera and Symphony Conducting Department of the Saint Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory (class of People's Artist of Russia, Professor E. Serov, and class of Associate Professor P. Gribanov) and completed a postgraduate assistantship at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of Honoured Artist of Russia, Professor I. Dronov).

He has taken part in masterclasses with outstanding conductors of our time — Bernard Haitink, Fabio Luisi and Lorin Maazel.

In 2012–2013 he trained at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria) in the class of Professor Wolfgang Dörner. From 2018 to 2022 he was a member of the conducting trainee group of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under Vladimir Spivakov.

He has collaborated with the Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Moscow Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Petersburg Governor's Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the Volgograd and Far Eastern Academic Symphony Orchestras, the Karaganda and Astana Symphony Orchestras (Kazakhstan), the National Orchestra of Romanian Radio, the Sapporo International Youth Symphony Orchestra (Japan), the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra (China), the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea), the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the symphony orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg).

He is a scholarship holder of the "Young Talents" programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and a recipient of grants from the Gartow Foundation (Germany) and the Georg Solti Foundation (Belgium). He has received an award from the Government of Saint Petersburg and a certificate of honour from the Public Chamber of Primorsky Krai for his services to society and his contribution to the cultural life of the region.

Special Prize of the 1st Only Stage International Conducting Competition (United Kingdom, 2021). Honorary Prize for Outstanding Achievement at the Lányi International Conducting Competition (Serbia, 2021). Audience Award of the 1st International Conducting Competition in Hong Kong (China, 2018).

Since 2013 — conductor of the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. From 2016 to 2023 — conductor of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. Since 2023 — conductor of the Novaya Opera Theatre named after E. Kolobov (Moscow). Since 2023 — conductor of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre. Since 2024 — Principal Guest Conductor of the Liaoning Opera House (China).
